Shawn Brown Scholarship Deadline is Near

Scholarship Awarded: Annually by the Young Agents Council (YAC) and MI Future

The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA) awards many scholarships for college students pursuing careers in the independent agency system. Among them the Young Agents Council (YAC)/MI Future Shawn Brown Scholarship, for $2,000, honors life-long young agent supporter and past MAIA President Shawn Brown, who passed away in 2002.

Guidelines are as follows:

  • Must be studying for a career in the independent agency system (does not have to be in an insurance specific curriculum)
  • Scholarships will be granted for the 2013-14 academic year
  • Recipients must be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year with at least one full year of undergraduate school remaining, beginning 2013-14 school year.
  • Plan to pursue a career in the independent agency system after graduation (preference is given to those who plan to seek employment within the independent agency system).

Among additional criteria used to evaluate scholarship submissions are grade point average, course work, career goals, extracurricular activities, references, sponsoring agencies and cover letter.

The scholarships will be presented at MAIA’s State Convention Conferment Lunch February 26, 2013, at the Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino, Mt Pleasant. The recipients are expected to be present to receive their scholarship.
